ArtPop 2023: A Year in Review

Throughout 2023, we celebrated our organization’s 10th year as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, while continuing to grow our mission’s impact through our four program divisions.

Here are some highlights we’d like to share from ArtPop’s biggest year yet:

Twenty Local Artists Benefitted from our Charlotte-Region Cities Program!

The #ArtPopCLT Class of 2023 included 19 adult artists and 1 high school senior artist, all working across a variety of creative mediums & processes! These talented local artists had their work displayed on media spaces throughout the region & nationwide - amounting in a $7 million+ public advertising campaign thanks to our Cities Program Sponsors!

In a first for our Cities Program benefits, our 20 artists’ works were featured at massive scale in Times Square for an entire month, thanks to OUTFRONT Media! Additionally, two artists from the Class of 2023 had their artworks featured on digital displays in their home countries, and they were able to view them in the public square while visiting!

In addition to the public artwork displays, our Cities Program artists also take part in an annual “business of art” workshop with Artists U, furthering our goal to provide artists with the tools for sustainable success. Following the initial two-day workshop, many of our Class of 2023 artists took the initiative to continue meeting throughout the year as the “Working Artist Group,” proving that the most impactful benefit of our program is the sense of community that forms amongst the artists.

Local Artists Were Paid Over $110,000 Through ArtPop’s Inspiration Projects Division in 2023!

Inspiration Projects, ArtPop’s creative project management division, hit a major milestone in 2023 - surpassing over $500,000 in direct payments to local artists! Throughout 2023, ArtPop Inspiration Projects managed a total of 24 creative jobs, bringing our clients’ visions to life, bringing more artwork to the communities we serve, and bringing sustainable success to local artists.

Inspiration Projects in 2023:

We Celebrated Local Art & 10 Years of ArtPop at our Community Events!

In Spring 2023, ArtPop once again partnered with Charlotte SHOUT!!, a community festival of art, music, food, and ideas. At the ArtPop X SHOUT! Lounge, we brought pop-up artist markets to uptown Charlotte across three weekends, during which artists collectively made over $15,000 in sales!

For ArtPop’s 10th anniversary, a special exhibition showcasing artworks by the Cities Program Class of 2023 was held at the Cain Center for the Arts over the summer! The exhibit’s free public reception was the perfect event to invite current & previous program artists, community supporters, and arts advocates to join us in celebrating a decade of connecting local art & community.

ArtPop’s 3rd Annual Upcycled Fashion Show Was A Fabulous Gala of Art & Sustainability!

For the 3rd year in a row, ArtPop hosted its Upcycled Fashion Show, an annual runway exhibition of local designers' work created from untraditional, repurposed materials - in this case, the retired artist billboard vinyls from our Cities Program. This year’s event took place at Lenny Boy Brewing on September 9th, featuring 15 pieces of fashion created by 14 local designers, and it was once again a sold out crowd!

A Bright Future Ahead!

As we enter our 11th year, we feel immensely proud of all that we achieved in 2023! It was a landmark year for the reach and impact of our mission, and 2024 will no doubt have more monumental things in store!
