Upcycling Initiative

ART + SUSTAINABILITY

As creatives, we aim to leave something - an idea, a question, a feeling - with our audience that lasts just as long as the artwork itself. ArtPop’s Upcycling Initiative is our ongoing effort to sustain our artists’ work - and our planet - by keeping materials used in our Cities Program out of landfills by creatively repurposing them in a way that only artists can.

Over 134,400ft

of vinyl kept from landfills annually.
We believe that art creates art, not waste.

Powered by Local Creatives

ArtPop works with local designers to transform retired billboard material into astounding couture fashion and unique functional accessories, while delivering on our promise to give local artists the tools to achieve sustainable success.

We have also partnered with organizations such as Make Welcome Sewing School, who offers support to refugee women in the Charlotte region through vocational training, mentorship, and employment opportunities.

ARTPOP’S 3RD ANNUAL UPCYCLED FASHION SHOW

This annual fundraising event repurposes our retired ArtPop Cities Program billboard vinyls to create wearable, statement designs.

ARTPOP ALUM TAKES THE INITIATIVE TO UPCYCLE!

Cities Program Class of 2022 Alum Jodi Lynn McNeely has repurposed the durable vinyl from her entire artist billboard to fabricate unique creations, including: wrapped canvases, upholstered furniture, and even a shower curtain!

Sustain the Initiative

We’re looking for community leaders who are just as passionate and innovative to join us in taking the ArtPop Upcycling Initiative to the next level.

Your contribution will go towards helping ArtPop deliver on its promise to keep our materials out of landfills, and towards supporting refugees and their families through our thriving relationship with Make Welcome. You will also be nurturing the dozens of artists and community members that make our Fashion Show a success, and your contribution will live on indefinitely as pieces of art enjoyed in traveling exhibits, public installations, and the homes of fellow art patrons!
