Adam Jochim & Ian Wegener - Awards for Lowe's Foundation Gable Grants Program

Completed: Q1 2024

In this Inspiration Projects partnership, the Lowe’s Foundation trusted ArtPop to manage the commission of original, custom-fabricated trophies for their Gable Grants program. These trophies are being awarded to the Community & Technical Colleges and Community-Based Organizations that are receiving Gable Grants throughout 2024.

To bring this vision to life, ArtPop worked with two Cities Program alumni: Adam Jochim (Class of 2021), and Ian Wegener (Class of 2020). Each of these woodworkers designed and fabricated the awards by hand using wood, vinyl, and acrylic.

Adam’s Process:

When I was approached about designing an award for Lowe's Gable Grants I wanted my skill and craft to be reflected in the piece because the grants themselves are about enrichment. I started by chosing Douglas Fir, a higher grade construction material and complimented it with Walnut for color and contrast. The fir was steam bent and laminated to form a cradle to hold the plaque in with wedged tenons. This shape was mounted on a circular base to evoke a light bulb with its supoort wires and filament. For anyone who has pursued a craft with diligence and moments of trial, that "Eureka!" moment flips the switch.

Ian’s Process:

ArtPop once again gave me an open platform to express my creative direction into a project that I was able to really give the client a true form of a fully formed unique series of small batch sculptures. I love how they turned out, and could not be happier with the process from start to finish.
