ArtPop Street Gallery Receives An OBIE Award

ArtPop Street Gallery Receives an OBIE Award

Hosted annually by the Out of Home Advertising Association of America - or OAAA - the OBIE Awards are “the most prestigious honors for creative excellence in out of home advertising.” For those who aren’t familiar, “out of home” advertising refers to advertising media in the places where you travel, commute, shop, work, and more. (Basically as the name states, whenever you are outside of your home!) This facet of the advertising industry is the heart of our #ArtPopCLT Cities Program where the work of local artists adorns highway billboards, airport displays, shopping center digital kiosks and more.

Back to the OBIE awards,
OBIE, short for obelisk, refers to the ancient stone pillars that served as the foundation of modern advertising—where posts and pictures informed the masses in town squares across ancient Egypt. Today, the OBIES reflect this history in the shape and design of their logo and trophies. Our ArtPop Street Gallery Cities Program Campaign won a Bronze OBIE Award in the 79th Annual Obie Awards under the Non-Profits and Public Service Category! The awards were emceed by Rick Robinson.

Our nomination featured the work of four artists from our Cities Program - hailing from multiple cities across the eastern region of the country. To our four artists featured in the campaign - we are so proud and congratulate you! Congratulations Susan Lawson, Elaine Stephenson, John Fadley, and Kara Hammond.

Thank you to all of our wonderful media partners including Adams Outdoor Advertising, Awedience Media, Clear Channel Outdoor, Lamar Advertising, and Outfront Media!

It’s an honor for everyone here at ArtPop Street Gallery to receive this award alongside our beloved media partners and key players in the out of home industry. We deeply thank everyone involved for the recognition and for the continued support in our mission to showcase local artists and make art accessible to all.

THE ARTISTS

"As an ArtPop alum, I’m very honored to receive this Bronze OBIE award for my ‘Dogs of a Different Color’ billboard art which was part of the ArtPop Cities Program Campaign.

No, the size of the actual award is not really this big... but it feels this big to me!"
