Hear, Imagine, & Be Love

Abel Jackson Paints the First ArtPop Street Gallery Mural

Discover our first ever #ArtPopCLT mural and the project that launched the ArtPop Inspiration Project program! This collaboration between ArtPop Street Gallery, artist Abel Jackson, Salesforce, Lowe's Home Improvement and Asana Partners resulted in a fantastic addition to the NoDa neighborhood of Charlotte, NC and kickstarted an entirely new facet of the ArtPop Street Gallery mission.

THE CHALLENGE

When software company, Salesforce connected with ArtPop Street Gallery in June of 2020, they shared their desire to make a creative impact in the Charlotte, North Carolina flagship market by commissioning a mural project for their client Lowe's Home Improvement. While they were open to the final creative design of the work, Salesforce knew that they wanted to use this opportunity to celebrate the city's diversity and amplify the creative voice of a person of color. ArtPop dove into finding the perfect mural location and muralist for the job.

MEET ABEL JACKSON

Enter Abel Jackson. Abel has a long history of creating in the Charlotte region, from receiving his B.F.A. from Winthrop University to creating his label 'Art by Abel' in 2011.

In the years since, Abel has brought numerous murals to Charlotte while continuing his art through airbrush, portraiture, and more.

"My desire is to paint the contents of my heart. My mission is to create profound works of art that communicate spiritually uplifting ideas and concepts."

Abel shares, "My desire is to paint the contents of my heart. My mission is to create profound works of art that communicate spiritually uplifting ideas and concepts. My objective is to stir the soul, stimulate the mind and expand the consciousness-awareness of both the artist and the viewer.

In this way, I do what I love so that I can do what I love. I am grateful."

ABOUT THE MURAL

In a serendipitous stroke of fortune, Abel was already in the process of developing his own mural concept when approached for the Salesforce/ Lowe's Home Improvement project. Titled "Self Love," the mural depicts three children - who are actually the likenesses of Abel's niece and two family friends - haloed by the words "Hear, Imagine" and "Be Love."

ArtPop managed the project, while Lowe's Home Improvement provided the supplies to create the mural. Asana Partners joined the team: donating the wall space that became the mural location and providing lifts to complete the project.

By October, Abel completed the first #ArtPopCLT mural with assistance from @bigtroublestudios. Abel hopes "the community will receive gratitude and love for their loved ones and themselves" when viewing the mural. The mural is located at 36th and Davidson in the NoDa neighborhood of Charlotte, NC.
